Meredith Monk, born in 1942, is a multi-award winning performer, director, choreographer, and composer. As a pioneer in interdisciplinary performance and extended vocal technique, Monk has created many operas, music theater works, films, and performance art installations. Her works have, “redefined conventional understandings of theatrical space and the relationships between music, movement, and drama.”1 As of 2019, Monk is still active, continuing to perform, direct, choreograph, and compose.
